Never continue in a job you don't enjoy

Never continue in a job you don't enjoy.
If you're happy in what you're doing, you'll
like yourself, you'll have inner peace. And if
you have that, along with physical health,
you will have had more success than you could
possibly have imagined.

Talent alone won't make you a success. Neither
will being in the right place at the right time, unless
you are ready. The most important question is:
"Are your ready?"

Hymn to Isis

For I am the first and the last
I am the venerated and the despised
I am the prostitute and the saint
I am the wife and the virgin
I am the mother and the daughter
I am the arms of my mother
I am the barren and my children are many
I am the married woman and the spinster
I am the woman who gives birth and she
who never procreated
I am the consolation for the pain of birth
I am the wife and the husband
And it was my man who created me
I am the mother of my father
I am the sister of my husband
And he is my rejected son
Always respect me
For I am the shameful and the magificent one

Distance

Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings infinite distances continue to exist, a wonderful living side by side can grow up, if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each to see the other whole against the sky.

Edouard Manet

There is only one true thing: instantly paint what you see.
When you've got it, you've got it. When you haven't, you
begin again. All the rest is humbug.

We must come full circle to find the truth

PRIEST: Sometimes we must come full circle to find the truth. (Scully looks up at the priest) Why does that surprise you?

SCULLY: Mostly, it just makes me afraid.

PRIEST: Afraid?

SCULLY: Afraid that God is speaking ... but that no one's listening.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness;
only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that.

Light

As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light of meaning in the darkness of mere being.

Carl Gustav Jung, 1875 - 1961

The sea rises, the light fails, lovers cling to each other, and children cling to us. The moment we cease to hold each other, the sea engulfs us and the light goes out.

James Arthur Baldwin, 1924 - 1987

It is singular how soon we lose the impression of what ceases to be constantly before us. A year impairs, a luster obliterates. There is little distinct left without an effort of memory, then indeed the lights are rekindled for a moment - but who can be sure that the imagination is not the torch-bearer?

George Gordon Noel Byron, 1788 - 1824

Pattern

The power to guess the unseen from the seen,
to trace the implications of things, to judge the
whole piece by the pattern, the condition of feeling
life in general so completely that you are well on
your way to knowing any particular corner of it;
this cluster of gifts may almost be said to constitute
experience.

New ideas pass through three periods

New ideas pass through three periods:

1) It can't be done.
2) It probably can be done, but it's not worth doing.
3) I knew it was a good idea all along!

- Arthur C. Clarke
